ICE IS GOING IN!
The ice team has been hard at work getting the ice surface ready for the season. Thank you, thank you, thank you! A reminder to please remove your shoes in the downstairs entryway — let’s help keep our ice surface clean!
REGISTRATION CLOSING
Registration for Session 1 closes in less than one week — Sunday, Sept. 27th. If you haven’t already registered, you’re running out of time!
WANT A LOCKER?
We have a limited number of lockers available for club members. If you are NOT playing in Session 1 but would like a locker, you will need to pay for your locker by Sept. 27th. (You can select the membership type you intend to sign up for, but only pay for the locker portion now.) If you currently have a locker and are willing to share, please let Peter Osborne know.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR
The annual general meeting will be held in the lounge at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 25th. This year, there are several board positions for which we have no nominees, so please consider throwing your hat in the ring. The club cannot operate successfully without these important volunteer roles filled. More details regarding the AGM and board nominations will go out soon, but please save the date for the AGM.
TRY CURLING
We are still in need of some volunteers to help with the free “Try Curling” event on Saturday, Sept. 26th. You don’t need to be a coach to help out, and it’s not a long commitment. Please contact Pam Osborne if you are able to lend a hand. We also need a few people to assist with the 5-week Learn to Curl session. Attracting and retaining new members is how we keep our club vibrant. And don’t forget — more members helps reduce our fees!
UPCOMING BONSPIELS
The Haliburton Hammer will be held the weekend of November 14-15. A Mixed spiel open to club members as well as out-of-town curlers, with no limit on the number of Haliburton teams. Details and registration info available on the club's Bonspiels web page (https://haliburtoncurlingclub.com/index.php/bonspiels/2020-2021-bonspiel-status). This one will fill up quickly, so register soon!
On November 21st, the club will be hosting a bonspiel for new(ish) curlers! This fun event will be open to any adult who has been curling 5 years or less. More details will follow soon, but we encourage all of the Learn to Curl graduates, as well as this year’s participants, to take part! Get your teams together for this fun introduction to the wonderful world of bonspiels!
Anyone interested in helping plan and organize any bonspiels should reach out to Megan Bawn at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
THANK YOU!
A huge thank you to the ice ad team — John Morrison, Dave Walmsley, Andrea Roberts, Kelly Greig, Phil Robinson, and Wendy Ogilvie — for all their hard work this summer. Due to their efforts, we increased our revenue from ice ads this year, despite a slowing economy. Special thanks to Dave Walmsley for securing two more full-ring advertisers — Minden Subaru and Curry Chevrolet. We’re excited for you to see how great the ads look!
SAVE THE DATE
For everyone who likes to plan ahead, the club Christmas party will be held on Saturday, December 12th! You will find this and all other club events — from practice ice to bonspiels to social events — on the website under Club Events > Club Calendar, so don’t forget about this valuable resource!
PRO SHOP
The pro shop is up and running. Thank you to Stephen Orr for keeping this fantastic resource up to date and available to our members! An order will be going out in early October, and everything is 15% below MSRP. If you need any equipment, check it out! A reminder that grippers will be available at the start of the session. Please check at the bar.
VOLUNTEER BOARD
You’ll notice a new addition to the lounge this year! A volunteer board has been added which outlines all of the volunteer roles that need filling throughout the season. Please take a look and see where you can help!
PRACTICE ICE
Practice ice will be available from September 28th to October 2nd. Morning, afternoon and evening slots are available, but you must register online to secure your spot. You will find the sign up on the website under Club Events > All Events. Coaching is available upon request — contact Russ Duhaime if you are interested.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Please take a moment to follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and to like, comment on and share the club's posts. This keeps us top of mind in the community and helps to grow our membership. If you have something you would like us to consider sharing on social media, please contact Anne Hewitt.
